Citizenship Application
Applying for Canadian citizenship is the final step for many permanent residents. It grants you the right to vote, hold a Canadian passport, and enjoy full participation in Canadian society.
How It Works
Eligibility – You must:
Be a permanent resident,
Have lived in Canada for at least 1,095 days in the past 5 years,
File income taxes (if required),
Prove English or French language ability (ages 18–54),
Pass the citizenship test (ages 18–54).
Attend your test & interview – If required, you’ll complete a knowledge test and possibly an interview.
Take the Oath of Citizenship – Once approved, you attend a ceremony to officially become a Canadian citizen.
