Medical Inadmissibility

Applicants can be found inadmissible for medical reasons if their health condition:

  • Poses a danger to public health or safety, or

  • Risks creating excessive demand on Canada’s health or social services.

How It Works

  1. Medical exam – Most applicants must complete one with an IRCC-approved physician.

  2. Officer review – IRCC considers results against public health/safety risks and cost thresholds.

  3. Opportunity to respond – Applicants often receive a Procedural Fairness Letter (PFL) to submit a mitigation plan.

Why It Matters

  • Strong medical and support evidence can overcome concerns.

  • Many conditions don’t trigger inadmissibility at all.

At Nivara Immigration, we help prepare detailed medical responses and mitigation strategies to address IRCC concerns.
