Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa)
A Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa, TRV) allows foreign nationals to enter Canada for tourism, visiting family/friends, or short business trips. Unless you are from a visa-exempt country, most travelers need a TRV to come to Canada.
Visitors can usually stay in Canada for up to 6 months at a time, and the length of stay is confirmed by the border services officer upon entry. Multiple-entry visas let you travel in and out of Canada for up to 10 years (or until your passport expires).
How It Works
Confirm eligibility – You must show you’ll leave Canada at the end of your stay, have enough funds for your visit, and have no criminal/admissibility concerns.
Apply online – Submit your TRV application with biometrics, proof of funds, travel itinerary, and ties to your home country.
Receive your decision & travel – If approved, your visa is stamped in your passport. Present it to CBSA when you arrive.
